A piece of old, outdated furniture sitting in a corner of your house, and you are bored of looking at it? Your first thought might be to dump it and buy a new one. After all, options are endless.

But have you ever wondered what happens to discarded furniture? A staggering 80% of discarded furniture ends up in landfills. These towering mountains of waste contribute to environmental degradation, as harmful chemicals leach into the soil, polluting water sources and endangering human and wildlife health.

Often, furniture isn’t discarded because it’s broken beyond repair but simply because it no longer matches the home décor or looks worn out.

But instead of throwing it away, why not upcycle it? With some creativity, you can breathe new life into an old piece, making it a unique and bespoke item you’ll cherish all over again. Upcycling isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a conscious step towards sustainability. By choosing to transform and not discard, you help reduce waste and promote eco-friendly living.

My journey into upcycling began two years ago when I decided to hold onto a 25-year-old cabinet from my childhood home. Instead of replacing it, I restored it using earth-friendly materials. That experience sparked a passion for upcycling, and since then, I’ve not only transformed my own furniture but also helped others in my community make sustainable choices. What began as a hobby has now evolved into an enriching profession bringing joy and fulfilment.

So, before you decide to discard an old piece, take a moment to consider its potential. With a little effort and creativity, you might just fall in love with it all over again—and help the planet while you’re at it.

Connect with me if you are up for giving a brand new personality to your old furniture. Let's take this journey together towards a better future.
